In the Footsteps of Jeremiah

Poor Jeremiah was a righteous man who did his very best to warn the people of God, to repent and escape the wrath that God was going to pour out upon Judah. Some listened and saved themselves, but most did not. And, Jeremiah had to watch the rebels among God’s people destroy themselves and everyone around them.

For those who are giving warning to the Body of Christ, to repent and escape the wrath of God, you are walking in the footsteps of Jeremiah. Some of our brothers and sisters will repent and escape. Most will not.

In the Footsteps of Jeremiah

I am amazed at the numbers of Christians who do not read the Bible, and among those who read the Bible, just a pitiful few actually read the Old Testament. It’s as if our brothers and sisters are uninterested in the character and qualities of God.

How is it possible to claim a love for God and be uninterested in His words?

Mrs. Little

I love my wife more than any person on this Earth. Outside of God, no one commands more of my love and devotion. And, what she says and writes is of consuming importance to me. I don’t always like what she writes or says. I don’t always agree with her. But, she is so important to me, that I pay careful attention.

I truly hope that you feel the same way about your spouse, if you have one. I don’t see how you can have a good marriage if you do not feel the same as I do, towards the person that you are married to.

Is it possible that so many marriages fail because our love has grown so cold?

That could be so. I certainly see a very, very cold love towards each other and towards God. I see very little gratitude towards the God who came to Earth and sacrificed His life for ours.

Worldliness

Why do I say this?

Because very few are actually reading their Bible.

How can you claim a faith in Christ, yet be so indifferent to what He said?

I am truly mystified by this, and I have wracked my brain, searching for an answer. And, I believe that I’ve found that answer:

Worldliness

We are all worldly. All of us. If you give yourself half a chance, you’ll turn from God and grab a hold of the pleasures of this life, with both hands. I know, because I’m exactly like that. But, those of us who are grateful to God, are willing to sacrifice those pleasures out of love, fear and just plain good sense.

If you love Christ, you will keep His commandments (John 14:15). The same goes for those who fear Him – which you should. And, if you have ANY common sense, you’ll keep His commandments because your hope for eternity is contained in those commandments.

So, why aren’t you reading them? All of them?

Why aren’t you seeking to understand the true nature of God?

Please, turn off your television. Turn away from your Facebook account. Put down your newspaper. In fact, eliminate each and every distraction that stands between you and those few minutes of time each day that you could be spending on reading you Bible.

READ. YOUR. BIBLE!!

It takes just 70 hours and 40 minutes to read your Bible. That’s less than 15 minutes a day. That’s it. That’s all that it takes.

Why is it so hard for you to spare that 15 or 20 minutes of time?

If you can’t do that, then it demonstrates that you have a problem – the same problem that Judah had, when Babylon came to take the rest of Israel into captivity. Just like Judah, during the time of Jeremiah, we are so caught up in the world that we spare little thought for God.

Please understand that the sins of Israel were no different than our own. We have different names for the sins that we commit, but they are still the same sins that Judah and Israel committed. They sacrificed their children. We commit abortion. They worshiped idols. We place country, entertainment and career before God. They oppressed and cheated each other. I can speak from personal experience that we do exactly the same.

Need I go on?

Worse, we are with less excuse than they. Our relationship with God is far more deep and direct, fueled by a close relationship with the Holy Spirit that they did not have. Therefore, our condemnation will be greater. To add even MORE insult to our injury, we have such easy access to the words of God, that it is truly an abomination for us to ignore them.

Your Pastor

Unfortunately, the bigger fault lies with your pastor. I notice that few pastors teach the need to read the Bible, and they themselves do not read their Bible.

How is it possible for a pastor to not read through the Bible every year?

Unfortunately, with half of all pastors consuming pornography on a regular basis, the answer of ‘how’ should be pretty clear. So, maybe you should ask your pastor about the last time that he read through his Bible, cover-to-cover.

Why is such a ‘read through’ important?

Why ALL The Bible

Well, Paul said this to Timothy:

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

 – 2 Timothy 3:16-17

When Paul wrote that, there was no ‘New Testament’. There was just the ‘Old Testament’. So, Paul was telling Timothy to read Genesis through to Malachi. Paul was telling Timothy that it was vital and important.

Jesus Is In The Old Testament

A friend of mine, who pastors our home church in Jerusalem, once gave a talk on ‘Jesus in the Old Testament’. It was – and is – a profoundly illuminating discussion of the One who created the world, who gave the Law to Moses, who judged Israel for her sinfulness and then paid for our sins upon the cross.

If you want to know about Jesus, you need to read more than just the New Testament. If you truly love and adore our Savior – if you are truly grateful that He saved you from an eternity in Hell – then you will WANT to know the qualities of God that are everywhere in the Old Testament.

But, I’m feeling a bit like Jeremiah here, as I say that.

Feeling Like Jeremiah As History Repeats

I’m sure that you ‘get it’, and are reading your Bible, cover to cover. So, I hope that I’m speaking about someone else, when I say this. But, I have little hope that what I said above will make much of an impression upon our brothers and sisters in Christ. They are too full of the world. They are too distracted by the pleasures of this life. They don’t have time or room for God in their lives.

Jeremiah pleaded with the remnant of Israel to repent of their sins and to turn towards righteousness. Only a few did that, and they obeyed God by voluntarily going into captivity. When Israel rebelled against Babylon and God’s judgment, Jeremiah pleaded for the rebels to stand down and return to God. But, they refused and were destroyed.

Those rebels were the patriots, and – like the patriots of today – they put their country ahead of God. More than six hundred years later, another group of Jewish patriots would rebel against God and destroy their own country in AD 70.

I find it ironic that we have so many self-proclaimed prophets who say that America and Europe will have a glorious future – that things will be great again. And, it’s the exact same message that the false prophets during Jeremiah’s time were speaking.

Oh how history loves to repeat itself.

Judgment Is Coming – For Us

I have spent the last thirty years, reading through my Bible, cover-to-cover, over and over. That effort has given me an understanding of God, that most Christians do not have. And, that understanding tells me that the time of national repentance is over, and that judgment is coming.

The only question is whether YOU will rebel against this judgment of God, or whether you will flee the wrath to come. The Americas and Europe are blood-soaked lands, where our churches have become abominations. And, judgment is coming for those who hold the truth in unrighteousness – Rom. 1:18.

When that judgment will come, is hard to say. I would have thought that it would have arrived years ago. But, until it arrives, we must continue to walk in the footsteps of Jeremiah.

The Road Of Lamentations

It’s a hard road, and the Book of Lamentations certainly describes how I feel. Those of you who do not know what I am talking about, read this:

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Lamentations+1-5&version=KJV

That’s the whole book, and it’s not long. But, it is oh-so-heavy.

There are great lamentations in our future. The times that are coming will shake souls, and many will die. If you know this, then you are responsible for trying to help others know what you know.

Are you prepared to walk in the footsteps of Jeremiah?

I truly hope that you’ll be ready for this

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.Proverbs 22:3
