Prophecy Clock – Luke 21:36 – The Key to Survival

I think that I’ve just opened a huge can of worms. Since I laid down the idea of a ‘prophecy clock’, I think that I need to lay out what must happen while that clock winds down to zero. Unfortunately, trying to describe what happens – and when it happens – has been made difficult by so many theologians muddying the waters with their personal opinion. In fact, I’m more than a little appalled.

Have we all gone insane?

What’s wrong with everyone?

Doesn’t anyone read the Bible, anymore?

It really is disheartening to see the mess that people have made of those scriptures that discuss the time that we are living in right now. But, I’m going to hold off on that for today, and talk about something that I mentioned yesterday – but didn’t explain:

The key that Jesus gave us for surviving the terrible times that are coming.

Prophecy Clock – Luke 21:36 – The Key to Survival

Normally, you would want to describe all the horrible things that are going to happen before talking about how to deal with it. But, it’s just so awful, that you’ll stop reading before we ever reach the end of this discussion, and that would be a shame.

So, let me throw out the Key to Survival (and a big ray of hope) as our Prophecy Clock continues to tick away. Here it is:

Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.Luke 21:36

Those were the words of Jesus in response to the shock and fear of His ominous words. It’s short, but it contains EVERYTHING that you need to prepare for the future:

  • Watch
  • Pray

That’s it.

Of course, there are a host of details in those two items that require some explanation.

Watch

When Jesus said WATCH, He did not mean that we read the newspaper and look out the window. He meant that we should act as if we are in hostile territory and be on the lookout for signs of the enemy. And, if we SEE signs of the enemy…

…well, are we supposed to just sit there?

No. You are expected to react. More importantly, you are expected to prepare to react – long before you are required to react.

Let me put it another way:

God gave you a brain. He requires you to use it.

So, as you see things happen, look at your situation and prepare the best that you can. But, that second part indicates that none of that preparation will be enough without a key ingredient:

worthiness

Pray

When Jesus said, “pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass”, He was showing us quite a bit.

First – There WILL be those who escape.

Second – You won’t escape if you are not worthy of escape.

You MUST be worthy if you are to have ANY hope of escaping what is coming. And, you are required to pray always for that worthiness. It wasn’t a suggestion.

When I first stumbled across that verse many years ago, I realized that I had been neglecting a commandment of God. So, I printed Luke 21:36 in large letters and taped it to my wall, where I couldn’t miss it.

Why?

Because He said, “Pray always”, and I wasn’t.

Of course, you want to do more than escape what is coming, you also want to stand before the Son of Man in the Day of Judgment and hear that your life and service were acceptable to God.

Context

By the way, there is a context to Luke 21:36. It wasn’t just stuck there to help buck up the flagging spirits of His poor disciples. It was a message of warning to us – the ones living through this prophecy:

And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.Luke 21:34-35

When Jesus said ‘as a snare’, He meant that it will be a total surprise and shock. Everything will seem fine as you hop and skip down the trail of life, and then – like a massive trap –  the devastation of the Last Days will close its jaws on you.

So, be careful. If you are caught up in the affairs of this life, you are in grave danger. Turn off the secular music. Stop watching the movies. Get rid of your TV. Cut back on your personal involvement in this life and read your Bible.

Oh… And, clear out the sin in your life – very, VERY important.

As you do that, ask God to make you worthy to escape what is coming and to stand before His Son in the Day of Judgment.

Do that every day.

Are you ready for this?

  1. and it will get harder and harder to not have the cares of this world bearing down on people as we move closer to the Day..as times get harder, the cares weigh heavier and take more of our mind, time, when we should be praying more and casting our cares upon Him…if we haven’t started by now…narrow is the gate and few that find it…thanks for watching and informing us..

  2. Dear John Little,
I thank the Lord for your website. This article is right on target. Last night, as I prayed, the Lord led me to James 5:7-18. These scriptures really blessed me for several reasons. First, I am 68 years young, have some troublesome problems with my spine, which limits me to some degree. I deal with a lot of chronic pain. However, the Lord tells us in James 5:13 Is any among you afflicted (suffering)? let him pray.

Those words jumped out at me as if the Lord had been pointing His finger at me. Affliction is affliction. Suffering is suffering. Whether it’s physical, emotional, whatever. Yet the Lord tells us to pray. But He so graciously tells us “in everything give thanks.” So in whatsoever state I am in, I will praise Him and thank Him.

I saw a video of the “Brave German woman” in Germany that stood up in the church where the reformation began and shouted down the Imam that had been invited to give the invocation before a concert. Blasphemous stuff that, that was, she felt led to attend. When the invocation began, a Holy anger come up within her and she cried out, Jesus Christ is Lord. It is 5 min. long, but it is worthy of viewing. We must pray for this precious vessel of God.

Here is the link. Hope you will see it, if you have not already.

Thank you for what you do. I will be praying for you and your wife.
May He grant each of us the courage and the strength of the Holy Ghost to stand in this evil day. For without Him, we can do nothing.
    Sue

    • Hi Sue Peraza,

I am so sorry for your suffering. May God bless you and hold you close in this fight.

Thank you also for that wonderful video. My wife and I both saw it, and it was excellent. Thank God for her and all like her.

There is a God, and He is not unmoved by our struggles. And, He is with us in our service to Him. And, thank you so much for your prayers.

Thank you, Sue, for that wonderful comment.

      Yours in Christ,

  3. Paul was very specific when he told the thess.’s that day would not come until the man of sin was revealed first. The modern day Church has become “day and hour” speculators and by doing so have become lazy such as the 5 foolish virgins who had garments..(sins forgiven) yet they had no OIL. They were not out and about the MASTERS commands and instructions…..they were playing and bragging about their RSVP wedding cards and not working the fields. We have been given the great commission to teach the Gospel to all creatures..up to the very hour of HIS appearing. The day is supposed to overcome us as we WORK…not as we sit back and set dates or play CHURCH….MOST will not escape the day of Jacobs troubles..

    • Hi M. Edwards,

Excellent point. There will be NO rapture until the Antichrist has been revealed. Here’s the passage in question:

Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. – 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4

That is ABSOLUTELY clear that there can be NO rapture until AFTER the coming of the Antichrist.

Why are so many so beguiled by this pre-trib rapture fraud?

They have forsaken a love of the truth. Amazing.

      Thank you, M.,

      Yours in Christ,

      John Little

      • Hi M Edwards,

I’m sorry that you were upset by my delay in getting to your comment. I take each comment in the order that they are submitted.

Please understand that writing and research – as well as answering comments – takes up an incredible amount of time and leaves very little for the other things that I must also do. Furthermore, I am on the other side of the planet from where you live.

All of that is why I ask everyone to give me ‘at least 24 hours‘ for comments to be approved.

        Sometimes it takes longer.

        Yours in Christ,

  4. I used to be a Christian prior to 2006. In fact I was a preacher since being trained as one in 1978-1981. I dropped the faith when I discovered an immovable flaw in the Old Law that could not be explained away. Thankfully for Christians the Atheists know nothing of this flaw and never use it in their arguments (where they usually misapply Bible verses with no historical background or proper hermeneutics). Thankfully for Christians also is the fact that since I no longer have a god commanding me to convert the world, neither do I have any reason to start an anti-Bible Jihad to expose the FLAW. The few people that I unmade as Christians back in late 2005 (by exposing this flaw) ended up in a psychological mess, including SSRIs if you get my drift. In fact I messed me up and nearly took myself down. So the upshot is that since early 2006 I have refused to expose this flaw and merely tell those silly enough to desire this knowledge to Study the OT for themselves. I like Christians remaining just as they are. They are less likely to steal my car or mug me in an alley.

That said. your question posted above asking does anyone even read the Bible anymore(??) brought to my remembrance something that always drove me crazy prior to my FALL. As you know Christians of old time (1st through 3rd centuries AD) did not carry little leather libraries called Zondervon Bibles. They instead (if they were lucky) had copies of the Bible’s books each on its on scroll that was stored in earthen jars. Obviously they could not carry it with them without a small hand cart. Yet they knew their Bibles meticulously. They had it committed to heart. If they could have seen what passes for Christians today they WOULD INDEED say that the term ’20th-21st century Christianity’ was an oxymoron.

    • Hi Jim Eagle Feather,

Thank you for your honorable nature. And, I have often thought that the perfect world for an atheist WOULD be one where most people were Christians.

As to the concept of ‘the FLAW’, my response is to ask WHICH ‘flaw’?

From an external (i.e., non-Christian) perspective, the Bible is loaded with them. However, the Bible was not meant to be ‘externally consistent’, because its foundation is faith. Without faith, the Bible itself is meaningless. And, when you boil it down… faith is that motivating force from inside that cannot be described, except to say… that it just IS.

Thank you, Jim, for that excellent comment. My hope and prayer is that God would show you the way Home.

      Yours in Christ,

      John Little

      • As I said John, I don’t reveal that any more. Other than to suggest one search for a flaw that athiest never use and search the LAW. Its a topic largely ignored today, hence I missed it though I read it a hundred times. It took me 27.5 years to stumble on it. My suggestion is that you merely discount me and label me as one under the dominion of Satan. While the NT makes mention of standing up to Satan (in certain situations) it has several dire warnings about opening certain Pandora’s boxes. For example being very careful about contacting a fallen one LEST you come away with a spotted garment.

From my standpoint what if I later decide to repent or somehow see through the FLAW? WHat if I once more embrace the Faith? Would I want to do so and then see a long train of Christians who lost their faith because of me? I already have some such wreckage from late 2005. I am not an atheist and the GOD entity still answers my prayers. I have no reason to uncovert Christians. Nor do atheists have any reason for their pet jihads, other than their apparent internal self-doubts concerning their refusal to embrace the concept of a GOD.

        • Hi Jim Eagle Feather,

Sorry about thinking that you were an Atheist. I read you wrong.

Well… there are many who have fallen and been restored. And some have committed some terrible sins in the process. And, those who had their faith shaken by your words… well, their faith would have been shaken somewhere else, anyway.

Of this, I am sure: God is bigger than your sins. We’re all idiots. All of us. And, there’s plenty of room for those who return. Lots and lots.

          Seriously. Lots.

Take your time. But, bad times are coming… so, don’t take too long.

          Thank you, Jim.

          Yours in Christ,

          John Little

  5. Hi John,

    Great Message!

    Repent, then watch and pray!

That’s what we ought to be doing.

Accounted worthy to be rescued by Yeshua.

May the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob bless and protect you and your family.

    Keith

  6. Hi John,

I believe it is most important to listen to God. God talks to everybody. The angel that is on your shoulder telling you right from wrong is the Holy Spirit. He does not talk in words but he talks in very clear and precise ideas. He will tell you exactly who, what, when, where, and how. Scientist hear him and say
Eureka! Christians should hear him and say Amen.

  7. Thank you for being a watchman on the wall and warning the people of coming destruction. The article is excellent; especially the scriptures.
