Suffer the Little Children

For five days, from Monday through Friday, our church – Calvary International Baptist Church – had their first (in a long time) ‘Vacation Bible School’. It was an exhausting ordeal, a tremendous honor and a great blessing.

I was an opportunity to demonstrate the love of God to some of the most adorable little munchkins that you ever saw.

Please, if your church does not have a program of outreach to the children in the neighborhoods around your church, now is the time. I was saved at the age of six, and it was a real commitment on my part.

And yes, God really does love the little children.

( and, thank you to LTC and Mrs. Lam for this great privilege! )

Suffer the Little Children

I am, by nature, a pretty lazy person. I like going to bed when I want to, and getting up when I want to. I like doing those things that are easy for me to do, and not doing those things that are hard. I like working while seated in my favorite chair, in my favorite corner and in front of my favorite computer. But, God had other plans.

( at least, for THIS past week! )

As I warned last week, our church was having a week-long ‘Vacation Bible School’, and that I would be teaching Bible. Thankfully, I wasn’t the only one teaching Bible and shared the burden with four others. I was also one of the ‘home room teachers’ that helped corral the kids and get them from class to class.

I had pre-teens, and it was like herding cats!

However, I like cats and have experience herding them about. Even better, Mrs. Little was also teaching, and while the kids might have liked MISTER Little, they positively LOVED MISSUS LITTLE!!

Seriously, of all the blessing and benefit that I might have provided over the past few days, the greatest blessing was the fact that I had this lovely woman who came along with me. They could sense the love of God in her and wanted to be with her, every moment that they could.

What a blessing to be married to someone like that!

Yes, we taught the truth of the Bible. We did demonstrations. We did singing. We had crafts and some science. But, I believe that it was the love that we had for these little ones, and our love for God, that had to have been the most persuasive. In the years to come, we will see what the Lord did in the hearts of these children. And yes, I know that God works in little hearts.

I was just six years old when I accepted Jesus as my Savior. But, we could not find a church that was willing to accept me and baptize me. None of the pastors that my parents went to, would even consider it.

How abominable!

Here is what Jesus said:

And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.

But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

When the Creator of the Universe and the Judge of the Whole World is ‘Greatly Displeased’ with you, humble yourself quickly and repent. My prayer is that God will NOT be ‘greatly displeased’ with you, when you stand before Him, after this life is over. But, I can tell you that one sure way to have The Judge be angry with you, is to deny one of these little ones.

When my father finally found a pastor willing to accept me and baptize me, he stood me before his congregation and asked me why I wanted to be baptized and join the church. In my shy, little six-year old voice, I said, “because I love God.”

That love of God has been my primary motivation over the course of 44 years, and for ANYONE to deny such a little one the opportunity to take up such a course… well …I pity anyone who would do such a thing.

If we do not come to Christ as a little child, we cannot be saved. For the sake of your eternal destiny, I pray that you see that. Our salvation comes via a faith and belief that is at the level of little children.

Far too many churches have corrupted this understanding, as they have corrupted so much else. And, if your church is one of those who would deny a little one… woe to you. Your church will answer to God one day, and suffer the wrath of God for denying these precious children.

And, for those of you with an outreach to children and families, God bless you! Your reward will be great in heaven, and you will be greatly blessed on Earth.

May the Lord God bless all of you, as you suffer the little children to come unto Him.

Again, a huge thanks to Lieutenant Colonel Lam, and to his wife and family, for stepping forward. They took the lead, in faith, and I am grateful that they did.

I truly hope that you’ll be ready for this

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.Proverbs 22:3
